BG Yoga New Student Guide
Welcome - we are a come as you are, move at your own pace kind of studio and we are excited to practice with you! Whether it's your first class, or just your first class with us, here are some guidelines on how to get started:
Schedule Your Classes
-
Our online scheduling system is through Punchpass. You will be redirected to Punchpass from our website when you go to schedule or purchase classes. It will give you prompts to create an account and you can go from there.
-
Schedule your first few classes so you can commit to the time. We have a great New Student Special so you can try out a few classes and get to know us, at a lower rate. All of our classes require pre-payment and registration.
-
Most of our classes are beginner friendly. You can read each class description by clicking on "classes" above, or when you click on the class from the calendar.. If you're not sure where to start, we are always happy to chat to help you find the right class - give us a call!
Coming to Class
-
Please arrive at least 15 minutes early so we can get you acquainted with the studio and settled in to the class space. If you arrive late the door may be locked and we will be unable to allow you in. Late entry can be disruptive to the flow of class, so please be on time, or early! No-show and late attendances will result in a forfeit of your pass for that class.
-
Shoes and coats can be left on the hooks and rug by the front door. Yoga is practiced with bare feet for traction and connection. We do not allow shoes in the yoga room so we can keep the floors clean.
-
Wear comfortable, stretchy clothing that is not too loose so you can move freely.
-
Purchase a mat and bring it with you. Having your own mat offers a sense of commitment and ownership to your yoga practice. We DO offer all other yoga props at the studio for you to use, or you are welcome to bring your own. Many mats and props are available for purchase at the studio, too.
-
DO NOT come to class is you are sick, experiencing any symptoms, or have recently been in contact with someone that is sick.
Etiquette
-
Mindful breathing is an important part of yoga. Please do not wear strong perfumes or smoke before class as it is very distracting. Please also respect the space and your fellow yogis by keeping your mat and body clean and odor free.
-
We are a device-free space. Please turn off and silence phones and watches. Disconnect from all devices while you're here. Vibrating phones in the cubbies and glowing apple watches on your wrists are distractions to you and those around you. We all come to unplug and unwind from the noise!
-
Leave the outside, outside. It’s totally great to chat with your fellow classmates once you enter the room but please keep it light. Discussions of heavy current events or personal matters can make it more difficult for you and others to stay present once class has started.
-
The last few minutes of each yoga class is called Savasana. It is a time of rest, reflection and peace, and is the most important part of the practice. Please do not leave during this portion of class. If you must leave early, inform the instructor before class starts and exit quietly before Savasana begins.
-
Please return all props neatly to their proper storage space in the way that you found them. We have mat cleaner and towels for you to clean your own mat after class.
We are grateful for your presence & support, please contact us with any questions. Thank you!
